Under general direction of the Water Metering Supervisor, this role is crucial in ensuring the accurate measurement and efficient management of water resources. Metering Technicians are responsible for performing technical tasks related to water metering systems, conducting inspections, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating installations.Applicants must submit a resume.
Meter Technician - Trainee
- Assist in the installation, activations, programming, reading, inspecting, testing, and replacing of the automated meter infrastructure equipment.
- Assists in communication with customers regarding metering issues ensuring excellent customer service and satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with documenting all activities, including installations, repairs, inspections, and upgrades.
- Promotes and enforces safety protocols, performs quality assurance checks, and ensures adherence to industry best practices.
- Assist in the replacing of meter components
- Assist in the change outs meter boxes
- Assist in reading of residential, commercial, and industrial meters, as required during repairs or meter sets to relay additional information for billing purposes
- Assist with the building/repairing and setting of hydrant meters for Construction use
- Assist with flanged metering services (1.5 in – 2 in)
- Operates a variety of hand tools and equipment in the removal, installation, adjustment, repair, and servicing of meters.
- Assist with updating work orders and service requests in the computerized maintenance management system with findings.
Meter Technician
- Experience in Installation, activation, programming, reading, inspecting, routing, testing, and replacing automated meter infrastructure equipment
- Experience in communication with customers regarding metering issues ensuring excellent customer service and satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with documenting all activities, including installations, repairs, inspections, and upgrades.
- Experience in the reading of residential, commercial, and industrial meters, as required during repairs or meter sets to relay additional information for billing purposes
- Promotes and enforces safety protocols, performs quality assurance checks, and ensures adherence to industry best practices.
- Experience in the replacing of meter components
- Experience in the replacement of a meter box
- Experience in programming and interrogation of large diameter meters
- Experience in site Investigating to determine work needed.
- Experience in building, repairing, and setting of hydrant meters for construction use
- Experience working with flanged metering services (1.5 in – 2 in)
- Operates a variety of hand tools and equipment in the removal, installation, adjustment, repair, and servicing of meters.
- Experience updating work orders and service requests in the computerized maintenance management system with findings.
- Assist with training as needed.
Meter Technician - Senior
- Advanced experience in Installation, activation, programming, reading, inspecting, testing, and replacing and integration of meters sizes (3/4 in – 1 in)
- Advanced experience in Installation, activation, programming, reading, inspecting, testing, and replacing and integration flanged metering services (1.5 in – 2 in)
- Advanced experience in Installation, activation, programming, reading, inspecting, testing, and replacing and integration of large diameter meters (3 in – 12 in)
- Advanced experience in building, repairing, and setting of hydrant meters for construction use
- Advanced experience in communication with customers regarding metering issues ensuring excellent customer service, and satisfaction, and is able to deescalate irate customers.
- Advanced site investigations for escalations
- Advanced administrative duties to support field personnel activities by updating work orders and service requests in the computerized maintenance management system with findings, resource usage, and completion status and creating follow-up work orders.
- Will collaborate with external vendors, customers, and departments professionally and as necessary to ensure the workflow process is working efficiently.
- Advanced us in a variety of hand tools and equipment in the removal, installation, adjustment, repair, and servicing of meters.
- Corresponds regularly with supervisor via email to understand priorities and communicate items requiring immediate attention and external follow-up.
- Ability to oversee a team of water metering technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure quality work and adherence to established protocols
- Data Analysis skills collecting, analyzing, and interpreting water meter data to identify anomalies, patterns, and potential leaks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Meter Technician - Trainee
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with Service link or similar Work Order Management software is preferred.
Knowledge on use of Handheld devices is preferred.
Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to use maps and or mapping systems to perform daily assignments.
Able to identify metering components and different meter types
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Determining needs and gathering, analyzing, and presenting data to provide accurate information
Understanding written and oral instructions.
Quickly recognize irregularities in data.
Reading and comprehending operation and safety manuals signs, maps, office memos, labels, blueprints
Take notes, messages, and document work performed
Problem Solving.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must have a Valid Texas Driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class D Water license within 18 months of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Meter Technician
Education, training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent. Plus a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.
Preferred:
A minimum of 1 year of experience in a water metering maintenance related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with Service link or similar Work Order Management software is preferred.
Knowledge on use of Handheld devices is preferred.
Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Experience in the utilization of GIS
Ability to use as-built drawings in performing daily assignments.
Able to identify metering components and different meter types
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Ability to dispatch and or delegate daily task
Knowledge with Handheld devices
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Experience in the utilization of GIS

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, climbing, use of foot controls. Works outdoors in hot, cold, and/or wet weather, exposure to noise and vibration from machinery, toxic chemicals and gases, work in confined spaces (trenches, manholes).
Hiring Range:
Meter Technician Trainee: $20.24 - $25.36 hourly.
Meter Technician: $22.31 - $27.95 hourly.
MeterTechnician Senior: $25.84 - $32.37 hourly.
