Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Manager, the Recreation Supervisor – Garey Park manages the recreation operations for Garey Park and the Garey House. Assist in establishing and communicating facility policies, procedures, and guidelines to staff and the public. Assists in planning and implementing budgets for the facility park. Knowledge of facility emergency procedures and emergency action plans. Manages sales of memberships and program registrations and maintains records. Ensures that park metrics are recorded and reported quarterly to department dashboard. Ensures the proper training of all frontline staff in customer service and emergency protocols. Hire, schedule, and supervise the staff of full-time employees. Responsible for department special events, 3rd party rental contracts and facility use agreements. Knowledge of operational aspects of building and park security. Assist with maintenance of facilities and equipment. Other related duties assigned by Manager, Assistant Director, or Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the personnel, equipment, facilities, and finances assigned to the department, including hiring, ensuring training for, reviewing performance, scheduling of work, disciplinary action, and dismissing staff members.
  • Supervises Garey Park recreation staff, Garey House staff and park volunteers.
  • Ensures that park metrics are recorded and reported quarterly to the department dashboard.
  • Assists with budget preparation and monitors the Recreation budget and expenses.
  • Assists the front desk with customer services including, but not limited to, program registrations, rentals, cancellations, and refunds, and notifies public of any changes.
  • Manages large park events, including department special events, 3rd party rental contracts and facility use agreements.
  • Catalog and maintain supplies and equipment for assigned facilities and programs.
  • Coordinates schedule of maintenance for recreational areas within Garey Park.
  • Coordinates and maintains schedules of assigned facilities and areas.
  • Ensures that monthly safety inspections are conducted and documented. Initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Schedules, evaluates and promotes assigned programs.
  • Coordinates publication of park events and programs and Garey House marketing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation or related field. Five (5) years of full-time experience in the development and implementation of recreation programs or recreation administration and supervision of leisure activities or programs. Two (2) years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Additional experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications of up to two (2) years.

Additional education may substitute for experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Knowledge of:

  • Facility operations and maintenance principles.
  • Recreation program administration and evaluation.
  • Supervisory and management practices and principles.
  • Basic Rules and regulations for park management.
  • Medical first-aid procedures.
  • Recreation risk management principles.

Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Supervising and training employees.
  • Customer Service and conflict resolution.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Reading journals and memos, manuals, and warning labels.
  • Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, and promotional materials.
  • Performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Budget management.
  • Analyzing statistical data.
  • Interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Interpreting City ordinances.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license.
  • American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are required within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) through the National Parks and Recreation Association preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls. Chemicals and recreation equipment.

Hiring Range: $56,434.04 - $70,678.40, annually.
