Under the general supervision of Electric Engineering Supervisor - Design, the Electric Designer Senior is responsible for the design of residential, commercial, industrial, and illumination overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as the primary contact for residential, commercial, and industrial developers in the project queue. Meet with customers to review project scope and to ensure positive communication is maintained.

  • Based on customer needs and requirements, review and develop detailed engineering designs and plans and cost estimates consistent with good engineering practice, Georgetown Electric’s line extension policies, engineering and construction standards.

  • Build and maintain relationships with builders, developers, city personnel, and customers to proactively meet customer needs.

  • Effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • In coordination with operations stakeholders, develop sound engineering designs. Clearly identify all the required resources for the successful installation and inspection of electric distribution infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with Electric Operation Supervisors to develop/revise processes and procedures to create better communications among all departmental groups and to develop more efficient and cost-effective work practices.

  • Assess load requirements, evaluate environmental constraints, and identify project requirements (permits,

  • easements, aesthetics, fees, etc.)

  • Perform cost estimates, plan material needs, and follow up on the progress of distribution projects from inception to completion.

  • Performs complex power system calculations: voltage drop, equipment sizing, etc.

  • Interpret survey data, plan, and deed information. Interpret engineered construction drawings.

  • Interface regularly with contractors, engineers, developers, customers, and consultants.

  • Develops master system plans for future growth in large developments.

  • Develops design for system improvement and upgrade projects.

  • Serves as project leader and coordinates the efforts of various utility sections in the design and construction of large developments.

  • Coordinate the installation of distribution facilities.

  • Review designs developed by designers for accuracy.

  • Provide leadership to designers and electric project coordinators as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training and Experience

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus seven (7) years of relevant work experience related to electric utility distribution construction/design capacity.

Education from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for experience of up to four (4) years for the minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with design software such as Partnersoft
  • Six (6) years of medium voltage utility design experience
  • Experience managing projects from planning to completion under limited guidance
  • Experience designing for residential, commercial and industrial electric utility customers
  • Experience in customer service including problem-solving and resolutions for a diverse set of stakeholders such as City Council, neighborhood groups and other utility customers
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Knowledge of:

  • Basic electric system construction and design.
  • Project management and scheduling.
  • City policies and procedures.
  • Personnel procedures.
  • Proper safety procedures.
  • Purchasing procedures
  • National Electrical Code and the National Electric Safety Code requirements relevant to distribution design issues.
  • High school-level math (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry), physics, etc. relevant to electric utility distribution design.
  • Distribution design and construction practices
  • Power system components, functions, ratings, and limitations.

Skill in:

  • Budget preparation and oversight.
  • Resolving complaints and concerns.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Data analysis and problem-solving.
  • Using computer and related software programs.
  • Time management and multi-task functions.
  • Reading blueprints, specifications, warning labels, etc.
  • Applying City of Georgetown Electric Criteria to various customer situations.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Temperature extremes from weather and engines; Energized electric facilities; occasional dogs and insects

Hiring Range: $46.41 - $58.14, hourly.
