Senior Parks Maintenance Worker

Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Foreman, supervises assigned staff and participates in the maintenance of the trails system. Determines ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Assists in maintaining City parks, facilities, equipment, and grounds; cleans and repairs park facilities; conducts routine landscaping and facilities maintenance tasksApplicants are encouraged to submit a resume.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mows, edges grass, trim trees and shrubs, maintains green spaces and trails; and prepares sports fields.
Maintains facilities by repairing/replacing doors, gates, fences, minor repairs, and painting.
Cleans restrooms at parks and cleans the community center.
Assembles; constructs and repairs playground structures; completes and works on light/small construction projects.
Performs daily rounds of facilities and parkland and fields to inspect areas for damage/vandalism; performs repair and maintenance functions, including plumbing, lights, etc.
Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.
Performs irrigation checks and repairs.
May assign work and/or assist Parks Maintenance Workers with completion of tasks.
Operates heavy machinery and light equipment to properly complete assigned tasks.
Promptly reports all accidents, injuries, theft, loss, and broken/damaged equipment/property to their immediate supervisor. Reports or corrects all unsafe practices or conditions they observe to their immediate supervisor.
Supports special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties
Completes and maintains records as required by department policy.
Performs all job duties according to all approved safety rules and procedures.
May apply pesticides.
Serves in an extension of current duties as required for emergency management, particularly in the areas of shelter, debris removal, and recovery.
Provides quality customer service to city staff, the general public, and all other work contacts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years of full-time experience in landscaping, park maintenance, or related experience. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Equipment used in groundskeeping or other related work.
Parks and recreational facility maintenance and repair.
Safety practices and procedures.
Light/Heavy machinery operation.
Construction, electrical, irrigation, concrete, and/or plumbing practices and procedures.
Herbicide and pesticide use and application.
City practices and procedures.
Skill in:
Comprehending and following oral and written instructions.
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Lift, move, and/or carry equipment or materials applicable to the assigned work.
Operating light and heavy equipment.
Reading memos, instructions, warning labels, road signs, etc.
Preparing work orders and reports for the supervisor.
Measuring and mixing cleaning agents/pesticides.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class A Texas Commercial driver’s license
Pesticide Applicator’s License is preferred.
CPR and First Aid is preferred.
Certified Playground Safety Certification, is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls. Exposure to weather extremes, especially the sun, exposed to pesticides.
Hiring Range: $20.24 - $25.36, hourly.
