Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collaborates with leadership team to deliver high quality library services to patrons with an emphasis on safety and security.
Takes lead in developing, documenting, and managing safety policies and procedures and a safety training program for library staff.
Recommends for hire, supervises, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, counseling, training, and evaluation of performance.
Coordinates and manages presence and activities of scheduled Library security personnel in the Library and around the building.
Circulates public service areas inside the Library and around the building, monitoring for safety and security throughout the Library.
Provides direction and facilitates training to Library staff regarding Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and other safety protocols.
Reviews safety activity and incident reports for the department; makes recommendations for further action to Library Director and Assistant Director.
Acts as a steward of the Library by referring customers to other library staff and sources of information in response to customer service requests.
Educates patrons on library safety and behavioral rules and regulations
Escorts disruptive patrons from the Library premises, contacting police when necessary. Manages information about behavior incidents, response, and escalation and communicates necessary information with other Library staff.
Meets and provides law enforcement agencies and first responders access to secured areas as needed.
Provides regular reports to management regarding activities, incidents, and necessary action or training identified during or after incidents.
Works to ensure appropriate shift coverage, attend training, meetings, and/or other activities, as needed, to meet the needs of the Library and the workgroup. Schedule may fluctuate to meet needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training, and Experience Guidelines
High School diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the job.
Preferred Skills:
Lead or supervisory experience.
Experience with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training and/or CPI Certification.
Knowledge of:
Federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
City and Library practice, policies, and procedures
Principles and practices of high-quality public library service
Common health and safety concerns in public spaces
Basic understanding of common health disorders that may affect behaviors; ability to recognize and respond appropriately to aberrant behavior patterns.
Supervisory, management, and leadership principles and practices.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and CPI methodologies
Skill in:
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Planning and implementing departmental procedures and objectives.
Effectively supervising and delegating duties to assigned staff.
Evaluating, interpreting, and analyzing day-to-day operations; formulating effective, proactive solutions to identified problems.
Resolving patron complaints and concerns.
Interacting and communicating with people of all ages.
Using computers and related equipment, hardware, and software.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.
CPR/AED/First Aid and Mental Health First Aid within six (6) months of hire
CPI Certification, preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, Walking, Sitting, Fine Dexterity, Bending, Climbing, Crouching, Vision, Hearing, and Talking. Limited outdoor work in hot, cold and/or wet weather conditions.
Hiring Range: $20.24 - $25.36, hourly.
