Works with Senior Librarian to assist with the work of one of the Library’s major service areas: Youth Services, Circulation Services, Outreach Services, Adult Services, or Technical Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Organize books according to Library classifications and shelve them properly.

  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of Library areas and holdings.

  • Open and prepare Library's common areas, computers, office equipment and other search tools.

  • Work directly with community volunteers.

  • Answer the telephone and refer calls to the appropriate section.

  • Collect payments.

  • Empty book drop and book collection areas.

  • Complete other duties as assigned

  • Complete work specific to the assigned Library service area:

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: (Technical Services)

  • Process and prepare Library materials for public use; mend damaged materials.

  • Use computer apps such as Adobe Photoshop to prepare materials, cases and covers for circulation.

  • Use the Library’s online integrated library system to accomplish assigned collection maintenance work.

  • Manage additions and discards in an assigned minimally cataloged circulating Library collection.

  • Receive shipments at the Library’s loading dock; unpack, examine, receive, and sort newly received materials for cataloging

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of full-time experience working in a modern library to include direct customer service experience. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Skill in:

  • Using a computer for email and calendar functions

  • Using web-based programs and the internet for work purposes

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a library Technical Services department

  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine motor skills, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, speaking

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Work schedule to include 19 hours per week, set by agreement between the hours of 8 and 5, Monday through Friday

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting/carrying/pushing boxes up to 50 lbs, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.

Hiring Range: $17.49 - $21.91, hourly.
