Under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Program Coordinator, the Solid Waste Coordinator is responsible for analyzing waste management data, researching industry trends, and supporting the development of waste reduction and diversion programs. This role involves conducting waste audits, tracking key performance indicators, and providing data-driven recommendations to improve efficiency and sustainability in solid waste and recycling

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to waste generation, diversion rates, recycling participation, and program performance metrics.

  • Identify opportunities to improve program efficiency and maximize return on investment, including cost-benefit analysis of new revenue generating initiatives.

  • In collaboration with Utility Billing, conduct billing audits to ensure accuracy in customer accounts, service charges and fee structures.

  • Monitor and analyze new development data to assess impacts on solid waste contract rates, ensuring accurate updates and compliance with contractual agreements.

  • Assist supervisor in completing reporting requirements for Transfer Station operations and recycling programs.

  • Leverage data research and various information-gathering methods to develop baseline studies for multifamily, commercial, and other sectors, as outlined in the Solid Waste Master Plan.

  • Monitor regional activities and policy changes affecting solid waste management.

  • Requests residential solid waste rates from comparable cities, completes rate comparison studies in coordination with supervisor that include financial but also solid waste programs offered to ensure that Georgetown remains competitive as required by the solid waste master plan.

  • Assist in public education and outreach efforts by providing data insights on waste diversion and recycling initiatives.

  • Respond to requests for information such as but not limited to open records request and resident/business inquiries and complaints.

  • Identify funding opportunities, grants and cost-reduction strategies

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, environmental sciences or a related field. One (1) year of full-time experience in solid waste management, environmental research, data analytics or related areas OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• City ordinances/policies
• Municipal solid waste service processes, landfill diversion measures, regulatory requirements and other sustainability information related to solid waste and /or the ability to acquire this information within the first year of employment.
• Fundamental research and analytical methods or the ability to learn within one year of employment.
• Billing and Financial Audits
• Grant Funding and Incentives
• Principles and practices of effective, efficient customer service.
• Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, management and the general public
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Managing business processes and process improvements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Analyzing data to make informed decisions
• Using computers and a variety of software

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking.
Work may involve occasional moving and carrying of light to medium equipment and/or materials. May be required to climb ladders at commercial or industrial facilities. On-site visits may require presence in industrial work areas, hazardous materials handling, and exposure to unknown domestic waste.

Hiring Range: $27.13 - $33.98, hourly.
