Water Conservation Interns will work under the direction of the City's Water Conservation Supervisor. This position will work closely with departments such as the Water Utility to assist with water conservation during peak demand season. The objectives of the internship will be to monitor the water usage of commercial and residential customers. There will also be opportunities to participate in outreach events as well as other projects within the Water Utility and other departments.

There are two (2) Water Conservation Internships available. Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitor water usage among commercial and residential customers using UMAX software and in-person observation.

  • Participate in job shadowing activities with staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited university or have graduated within the past six (6) months. At a minimum, must have completed enough course hours to be classified as a junior. The ideal candidate is comfortable reviewing large data sets and is interested in the fields of Environmental Science, Public Administration, or Water Conservation.

Knowledge of:

  • Water, conservation, environmental science, engineering, and an interest in city government and public administration.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiar with GIS applications and Spatial Analysis.

Skill in:

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong oral & written communication skills.

  • Using a computer and spreadsheet software.

  • Preparing reports and conducting analysis.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Performing mathematical calculations to prepare budgets, reports, etc.

Desired Start Date: April 6th (flexible)

Expected End Date: August 14th (flexible)

Schedule: Typically, 24 hours per week

Hiring Range: $15 hourly.
