The Electric Department for the City of Georgetown is offering one (1) paid internship position to help support the Core Engineering and Operations Suite of applications, including the engineering analysis model, outage management software system, Electric GIS, staking/design software, and asset management systems. The intern will perform moderately complex electric geospatial modeling, engineering analysis and other technical tasks related to our electric distribution network. This internship will provide opportunities to build/expand the candidate's portfolio through participation in projects and initiatives that will produce geospatial maps (printed and online), accurate data for engineering analysis and project samples that support course objectives. Student intern will be working primarily in an office environment under the supervision of Electric Engineering Technology Manager.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and unofficial transcript.

  • Reviews as-built electric projects and ensures that data is properly transferred to the electric distribution model.

  • Creates and completes analytics on data from data from multiple engineering platforms.

  • Coordinates with the Electric Engineering, Electric GIS and Operations teams.

  • Works with Engineering on Power Quality Monitoring mapping and data inputs.

  • Mapping platform and data integrity improvements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, training, and Experience:

  • Third or fourth-year student pursuing a four-year Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science, Electric Engineering or related technical field.

Knowledge:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

  • Time management and organizational skills.

  • Using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives

  • Accurately recording and maintaining records.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class C Texas Driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

EMPLOYMENT TESTING
Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation and driving record check.

SCHEDULE:

  • The internship will consist of 8 hours (5 days) per week, primarily in an office environment.

  • Start date of the internship is anticipated to be May 11, 2026.

  • Deadlines and schedules will be developed with the student and supervisor.

  • Dependable transportation is needed.

Anticipated Start/End Date: May 11 - August 20, 2026

Hiring Range: This is an 8-week internship funded through an APPA grant, with an hourly rate of approximately $12.50.
