Part-Time, Temporary Mail Clerk

Southwestern University, located in Georgetown, Texas has an immediate opening for a Part-Time, Temporary Mail Clerk. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of mail and packages to various departments and individuals on campus. By retrieving, sorting, and distribution of mail, as well as providing related customer service, the position supports smooth operational functionality within the university. Additionally, it helps maintain a reliable and organized mail system, ensuring that faculty, staff, and students have access to necessary postal services. This is a part-time (up to 19 hours per week), temporary (until May 2025) position. This is a part-time, non-benefited, non-exempt position.
Position Responsibilities:
- Retrieve mail from the Georgetown Post Office daily.
- Sort mail and prepare it for delivery across campus.
- Deliver mail to departmental offices daily.
- Collect and process outgoing mail.
- Operate and inspect the campus mail delivery vehicle. Contact the Facilities department if problems arise with the vehicle.
- Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
- Provide customer service such as selling stamps, assisting students, faculty and staff with their mailing needs, helping open their mailboxes, and find their combination in Self-Service.
- Assist with data entry for package tracking, when needed.
- Answer phones.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, understand, follow written and verbal instructions.
- One-year office/clerical or mail room experience.
- Possess a Texas driver’s license and a good driving record to operate the mail delivery vehicle.
- Basic computer skills to utilize software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance and adhere to a regular work schedule.
- Ability to develop an understanding of and appreciation for cultural differences and diversity, fostering an inclusive environment within the campus and community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication and telephone etiquette and listening, customer service skills.
- Flexibility regarding changing priorities.
- Organizational skills such as sort alphabetically and numerically.
- Possess excellent memorization skills.
