Position Overview:

Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Director of Admission. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Admission. The Director of Admission works both directly and indirectly in the recruitment of prospective students to Southwestern University and helps families navigate the college admission process, starting with college research through financial aid and enrollment steps. The position also oversees the leadership of the Assistant Directors and Admission counselors in their daily responsibilities and goals through a mentorship and growth philosophy. Finally, the Director will support the Assistant Vice President of Admission in the execution of the divisional enrollment plan to meet institutional enrollment and net tuition goals. This is a full-time, exempt position eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide leadership and supervision of the new student recruitment team, including hiring, employee training/professional development, support in territory planning, budgeting and activity, position assessment program and overall employee evaluation. Also provide professional growth experiences to develop admission professionals.
  • Represent Southwestern, the Enrollment Division and the Admission department to the appropriate internal and external committees and professional organizations.
  • Maintain a predetermined admission territory and meet student recruitment objectives.
  • Plan and execute counselor partnership program including events and ongoing communication.
  • Provide office-wide team development and communication.
  • Read and evaluate applications and provide input for student candidate selection process.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all phases of travel within an assigned geographic area. Includes representing Southwestern to different constituencies.
  • Serve as a second reader in the admission reading process.
  • Participate as a member of the enrollment services leadership team helping to coordinate efforts across the division.
  • Collaborates with partners across campus.
  • Travel to support the university’s recruitment efforts as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President.

Additional Duties

  • Data research supporting admission, travel planning and other related recruitment initiatives.
  • Complete paperwork including expense reports, interview reports, annual evaluations, etc.
  • Track application performance and data trends for both themselves and the admission counselors/assistant directors.
  • Monitor budgets for those who report to them.
  • Perform payroll related functions including management of time-off requests.
  • Actively participate in continued engagement with the enrollment profession as a whole both on and off campus through networking and professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of demonstrated progressively responsible leadership, including supervisory experience of professional admission staff.
  • Strong organizational, interaction and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated professional manner with all internal and external University constituents
  • Possess integrity, flexibility, attention to detail and affable nature
  • Prove ability to perform well in stressful situations
  • Ability and willingness to travel using standard commercial and or professional modes of transportation
  • Understand and have a commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty.
  • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift boxes of at least 25 lbs.
  • Excellent computer skills including Google suite products
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic

  • Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Seven or more years of experience as an Admission professional at a college/university, preferably a selective liberal arts institution.
  • Knowledge of Enrollment Management, enrollment planning and financial aid
  • Knowledge of Slate Information System

Starting annual salary: $57,072. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed the starting salary.
