We are currently looking for an experienced Sous Chef to work full-time within our Independent Living community of The Wesleyan. Progressive culinary management experience, along with high volume complex food service and institutional batch cooking experiences, and a passion for producing exceptional meals will be essential to your success as a Sous Chef at The Wesleyan.

Essential Job Functions:
- Trains employees; plans, assigns and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines associates; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
- Prepare large quantities of food, following standardized recipes, within required production schedule and sanitation standards
- Reviewing, adjusting, and completing inventory with the Executive Chef. Ensuring accuracy and completion of the inventory and ensuring adequate supplies and products are on hand.
- Reviewing, adjusting, and completing purchase orders with or without the Executive Chef when necessary. Ensuring accuracy and completion of the purchases and ensuring adequate supplies and products are on hand.
- Maintains basic food recipes, preparation, service, and storage sanitation principles.
- Direct food preparation in accordance with established standard of quantity, quality control, taste and presentation.
- Operational oversight with a hands-on leadership style, including proven competencies of all areas of the food operation.
- Following HACCP standards and ensuring HACCP logs are accurately filed, enforcing proper sanitation practices throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
- Support the culinary and dining services department in ensuring compliance with health requirements, Health Department regulations, and Department of Labor regulations as they pertain to the operation.
- Manages dining services team members and works in a cooperative manner with team members, and guests.
- Dependable and able to meet schedule requirements (attendance and punctuality) with no restrictions.
- Provides leadership and guidance to team members in the preparation and serving of high quality and great tasting meals.
- Responsible for providing prepared food and meals of the highest quality for service to the residents.
Qualifications:
- A State-approved course of training as a Food Service Supervisor or have equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of cost accounting, record keeping, budget planning, menu planning, diet therapy, purchasing procedures, and dietary management.
- Progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending on formal degree, training, and/or experience.
- Strong leadership skills along with the ability to supervise and cultivate a collaborative team environment.
- Catering experience a plus.
- High volume, complex foodservice operations experience is highly desirable.
- Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
- Proficient with various computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, email and the internet.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all resident and staff matters.
- ServSafe certification highly desirable
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- A servant-minded approach to all aspects of the job.
- A passion for working within a senior living and/or assisted living community is a plus!
